New York University Medical Center

The Rusk Institute is a 6-story 100,000sf rehabilitation facility for people with disabilities. The original facility had been built in the 1960's and renovated in bits and pieces over the years. Rosenberg Kolb is designing the complete renovation of three floors, including one entire floor of pediatric spaces.

The work includes new nurses stations, new private rooms, conversion of older "ward" rooms into semi-private rooms, renovated corridors, and support spaces.

New systems (such as sprinkler, nurse call and fire alarm) and asbestos abatement are also being coordinated with the work. To maintain continuous use during construction, the work is being elaborately phased over three years.

This work is one of three major projects Rosenberg Kolb is currently working on at NYU Medical Center. The two others are new Labor and Delivery Rooms and support spaces at the Tisch Hospital, and renovated offices for the Maternal Fetal Medicine Practice.
